Learn Cornish in Cornwall
Media recognition for my unique residential course from the Cornish Guardian February 21st 2007
The Cornish language course Learn Cornish in Cornwall is a new venture where eco-linguistics meets biodiversity.
Imagine that, a language school that promotes the endangered language of Cornish and at the same time helps people to value the unique environment of Cornwall!
Julie Tamblin, who runs Learn English in Cornwall, is already finding recognition for the innovative language school. Just this January she received a ‘Gold’ award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) for her commitment to environmental concerns. Also, at the end of last year at an award ceremony held at Trerice Manor, Learn English in Cornwall was Highly Commended, picking up a third place for the best small business in Cornwall for reducing environmental impact.
Julie runs her language courses from her home in Lostwithiel. All of her residential courses combine her unique levels of skill and knowledge as a teacher, with wonderful local experiences, which celebrate the environment of Cornwall, its people, events and special places. In combination with her residential courses she teaches French to local people of all ages (from 2 years up to 75+)!
Alongside her residential ‘Learn English in Cornwall‘ courses, Julie has set up a unique residential course to teach the Cornish language. ‘Learn Cornish in Cornwall’ is a residential course designed for beginners. It reflects Julies passion for both languages and the environment. It is designed to offer an intensive high-quality learning experience. Here the language is situated in the context of the local environment.
This course is unique. It is possibly the only residential Cornish course in the world. It is designed for local people, including families who would like an intensive Cornish language learning experience. It will be of interest to those abroad with their roots in Cornwall, to those who care about endangered languages, to academics involved with Celtic studies and to business people who see the economic benefit of promoting our local language.
In line with Julie’s concern for continuity and tradition within her Cornish cultural heritage, she has selected Modern Cornish as the form to be taught in her language school.
Julie’s house, which runs as a green B&B out of course time, is a haven of ecological responsibility. It is completely free of any of the toxins of modern life and lucky guests who stay with her even sleep in organic cotton sheets. She specialises in catering for vegans and vegetarians and all her guests are treated to nothing but organic and local produce. For people who care to make a difference, this is the place to be.
Course options and dates are the same as those shown on the Learn English page. Please contact Julie direct to book a course using the details provided below.
