I provide as much information as possible to reach Learn English in Cornwall using the least polluting transport available (see travel page).
I avoid the use of chemicals and toxins. For laundry and washing up, environmentally benign products such as ‘Ecover’ and the totally natural soap nuts are used. There are no aerosols or toxic cleaning products here.
Drinking water is filtered with an in-pipe system and the cartridges replaced every sixth months as recommended. The business is an animal as well as a smoke-free zone, a fact which is much appreciated by my guests, some of whom suffer from allergies and asthma.
In this low chemical household I use natural coloured organic cotton bedding, curtains, towels and minimise the use of chemical dyes. Environmentally friendly paints are used for all new wall painting.
The business uses a green tariff for electricity which is provided through a hydro-electric scheme in Scotland. Low energy light bulbs were installed throughout three years ago. There is also a ‘lights off’ policy. All electrical appliances, (washing- machine, fridge/freezer etc) are ‘A’ rated.
Wherever possible food is purchased from local and organic suppliers and prepared for delicious, healthy, home-cooked meals. I regularly support the Farmers' Market in Lostwithiel.
I encourage anyone interested in reducing their carbon footprint to calculate their carbon use by using the Resurgence Carbon Dioxide Calculator.
